Are you in your later years and starting to lose confidence in your walking? Is it affecting your daily routine and causing you and your family to worry about the future?
You're not alone. I've worked with hundreds of people in their later years, typically over 80, who are challenged with their mobility and concerned about losing their independence. Working with people in their own homes or in care homes, I have helped people regain their movement and confidence, which has led to greater freedom to enjoy their lives again.
Early assessment and treatment can help you to move forwards towards moving with confidence.
"Melanie has provided a high level of holistic housebound care for my father following his hip fractures. Care has been 'patient centred' and thoroughly personalised. The progress made by father under Melanie's guidance has been a joy to see and we thank Melanie for making such a positive impact in his road back to mobility."

"I have been experiencing problems with my neck (and shoulders) due to Parkinson's issues and was doing Physio and I realised I needed a more one to one approach, so I contacted Melanie. Since she first visited I haven't looked back as she has patiently worked with me to find the most appropriate exercises and constantly checks that I am doing them correctly. I am slowly getting out more and my confidence is getting better and I am very grateful for her hard work and would recommend her to anyone."

I qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1990 and for over 25 years I have specialised in the rehabilitation of older adults and adults with neurological conditions such as Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.
I worked in the NHS for 18 years before leaving to set up my business, Aspire Physio in 2008. In 2020 I changed my business name to Melanie Parker, Move with Confidence to reflect the outcome that I've helped hundreds of people achieve.
I believe that I add value by working with people in partnership, helping them to look at their overall wellbeing to help them start to move forwards and support not only them but the whole family.
I enjoyed many years of working in the NHS, however I started to get frustrated with not being able to deliver the quality of service that I was trained in and believed in.
The resources in the NHS and long waiting lists meant that often I wasn't able to see people when they needed it, which at times was detrimental for people in later years. Now I typically see people within 1 – 2 weeks to start moving them towards being more mobile and confident.
My business started from an idea I had in supporting care homes. I am very passionate about care homes having the support of health professionals and from the local community.
I believe in personalised care and improving the quality of life for those living in care homes. I started working with a group of care homes providing both Physiotherapy to maintain physical abilities and working with staff in ways to enable their residents, maintaining dignity and independence. I continue to work with people living in care homes as well as people in their own homes.
I live in Belper, a thriving market town and I love being able to walk from my doorstep into the beautiful countryside in this area and opportunities to get involved in so many different things that are going on.
My favourite things to do are walking, reading, yoga and dancing (Argentinian tango!).
I'd love to hear from you. No question is too small.

I have worked and supported the Lilian Prime MS Centre in Derby, an established charity, for over 15 years, both whilst I was in the NHS and since running my business. We are very fortunate to have one of only a handful of centres in the UK like this, where people and their carers who are affected by a neurological condition can get support. Support is in various therapies, exercise classes and a place to chat with a cuppa. I have been involved in many ways over the years, including providing Physiotherapy, group well-being classes incorporating both Physiotherapy and Yoga and more recently in free Yoga Nidra sessions (a yoga meditation).
I have supported Women's Work in Derby, an amazing charity, for over 3 years. The charity provides valuable support for vulnerable women and their families by providing essential skills and helping them to instil confidence to truly flourish in life. I have given my time and support freely with Yoga classes to improve physical and mental well-being and now deliver monthly well-being group sessions incorporating seated Yoga and breathing techniques.
