Supporting families
Giving back family time

By working with your relative on building confidence in their movement to regain independence, I can help to give back family time reducing your ‘care time’.

Are you:

  • Spending more of your time providing support for a member of your family who is facing challenges with their mobility and struggling with self-care at home?

  • Juggling your time supporting a relative with your own family needs and work, which is draining you both physically and emotionally?

  • Worried what the future holds for your relative and your family?

This is how I can support you and your family member:

  • Personalised treatment sessions in the home or care home, working to improve confidence and mobility.

  • Support for the whole family on how best to assist someone to move.

  • Advice on equipment or other services that could help with daily tasks to maintain independence.

  • Holistic advice on falls prevention and maintaining optimal health.

  • Support in liaison with care staff when working with someone who has paid care at home or lives in a care home.

What my clients are saying…

“To have Mel to support us all with this journey, to enable us all to have some independence in what appeared to be a hopeless situation gave us hope that we could improve all our lives and the situation we found ourselves in.

We had noticed that Mum had become increasingly dependent on us to support her with her basic needs with regard to preparing herself food and drinks and her mobility and confidence were rapidly fading.

We felt that if she felt more confident in moving around that this would empower and enable her to become more active, not only in her own home, but out in her local community.

After accessing Mel’s professional services, we noticed that Mum had become more engaged with the basic exercises and these were factored into her daily routine along with her carer’s help and encouragement.

Mum became more focused on her future progression and we looked forward to her being more independent.

My sister and I felt that it was the start of a new beginning for Mum and the future looked more positive for us all.”

Thank you Melanie for returning my Mum to me.

Mum was withdrawn. My Dad was ill in a nursing home and Mum had to cope with a recent fractured pubic rami. Melanie asked Mum what she wanted the outcome to be after her input. Mum’s request was to be able to catch a bus and go into town; also to be able to visit Dad on her own.

Melanie assessed Mum and said yes this was achievable. To me this was a light bulb moment. Mum was thrilled and engaged. Melanie gave Mum lots of praise and encouragement plus hard work according to Mum! She achieved her goals and continues to see Melanie to recap on her exercises at Mum’s request.”
